"In Mitchell Duneier's book, "Sidewalk", the author explores the sociological setting in which a population of sidewalk vendors are profiled. In more than five years of research and surveying the stories of these individuals, Duneier creates a series of profiles about both the vendors and the setting in which they live. Anecdotal experiences demonstrate to the reader that the themes in Sidewalk help to create a sociological study of both those who profiles and the urban setting in which the events of the book unfold. This paper shall define and describe three core sociological theories that Duneier uses in his book. Ethnography The first area of study in Sidewalk is Duneier's application of ethnography.
