This paper explains that the short stories "The Monster" by Bertolt Brecht, and "Thief" by Robley Wilson, Jr. are very different in terms of their content, the periods and characters they represent. "The short stories "The Monster" by Bertolt Brecht, and "Thief" by Robley Wilson, Jr., are very different in terms of their content and the periods and characters they represent. However, as this essay argues, through a focus on characterization and plot, both stories explore a common theme of stereotypes and mistaken identity. As is seen, both the characters in each story, and the events of each plot, reveal how mistaken our interpretations of other human beings often are. Bertolt Brecht's "The Monster" is a story told from the perspective of an omniscient narrator of an incident at a Russian film company."
