Paper Summary:
The paper notes that in any ethnic conflict, the women have the most to lose, their families, their children, their lives, and most often, their dignity and self-respect. This paper examines the phenomenon of sexual violence as used in ethnic conflict and cases of genocide, drawing primarily on the examples of Rwanda, Gujarat and the former Yugoslavia. This paper also uses the experience from the case of the Korean comfort women, to examine the reason behind the widespread practice of rape during conflict. The paper uses MLA style footnotes but does not include a works cited page.

"During the genocide in Rwanda, senior officials often kept women alive to gift to their juniors, as a reward for carrying out their orders 'particularly well' . Often these took the shape of "forced marriages". Others were simply sexual slaves, either for a senior officer, or groups of his men."
