"Renascence" by Edna St. Vincent Millay
The paper provides a literary analysis of the poem "Renascence" by Edna St. Vincent Millay (1912).
895 words (approx. 3.6 pages) | 1 source | MLA | 2002 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper examines the poem's skillful use of literary devices such as metaphors, allegories, symbols and irony. The paper discusses how the poet brings to life her thoughts and feelings from more than eighty years ago and the fact that the ideas within are just as relevant today, in the 21st century.

From the Paper:

"The concept of the poem, as a whole, is of the same ironic vein. Ms. Millay is constantly yearning for more in her life, when she gets what she thinks she wants, it smothers her even more than before. She longs to be where she was before. It takes the consideration of death, the actual envisioning of being in the grave, before she really wants to live. Once truly investigating the idea of death she recognizes all that she should be appreciating in life. She now understands that she was the one responsible for the world caving in on her, and that life didn't have to be that way."
