1,052 words (approx. 4.2 pages) | 2 sources | MLA | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper describes how "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "The Tragedy of Pudd'nhead Wilson" demonstrate how deeply slavery and the mentality surrounding slavery was ingrained in Southern society. The paper also explains that Twain's use of humor, irony, and memorable characters makes us aware of just how cruel and senseless the institution of slavery was.

From the Paper:

"The predominant theme in Mark Twain's stories, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "TheTragedy of Pudd'nhead Wilson" is the foolishness of slavery. Through his characters and their unique circumstances, we can see how Twain is emphasizing how wrong slavery is because it is degrading. Twain also illustrates how slavery was a complicated problem that could not just be solved with freedom because class distinction was a problem that existed in the human mind and could not easily be changed with laws."
