Written in 2009; 1,608 words; 4 sources; MLA; $ 52.95
Paper Summary:
This paper attempts to deconstruct the heroine of Jane Austen's novel "Pride and Prejudice", Elizabeth. Noting Austen's use of Elizabeth to represent certain ideals and perspectives of the time period, the author describes Elizabeth's characteristics and struggle with societal expectations and norms of that era. The paper includes analysis of four articles in order to deconstruct the idea of femininity and how it is presented in Austen's prose.
From the Paper:
"It is widely recognized that in Jane Austen's Victorian novels, the author uses her heroines to represent certain ideals and perspectives of the time period. Whether it is in a valiant effort to rise above the patriarchal hierarchy, or to express sympathies for her fellow toilers, Austen presents situational characters that seem to both sustain stereotypes and rage against them. While many of her heroines seem to be stuck in societal classes, most often those same characters are on similar quests of individual self-identity, social and financial mobility, and independence."
