"Both George Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan and The Good Woman of Setzuan by Bertolt Brecht deal with the longstanding conflict between personal virtue and integrity and ones duty to society. In reading these works we can come to a better understanding about the possibilities of virtue in our own lives as it might conflict with the collective morality of society. George Bernard Shaw believed that society tends to reward vice while it oppresses virtue. Certainly this is apparent in much of his dramatic work..."
