Paper Summary:

This paper examines the use of imagery in "Piazza Piece" by John Crowe Ransom. It looks at the contrast between the various sides of life as presented in the poem. The paper covers the poem in the order it is written, with various line references, with the goal of helping a reader to understand what is being presented in the poem. The paper begins with an explication of the piazza itself and how the word sets the mood for the poem, continuing on to cover more specific imagery.

From the Paper:

"The second section of the poem features the lady as the speaker. In this section the naive nature of the lady, rude with youth, comes through. She is certainly aware of her youth and beauty, and boasts of it in the opening line of this section (which is repeated at the end.) She states that she is waiting for her true love, yet he seems to be a phantom with no name or identity that she mentions."
