"Literary Studies: Analyzing the Discourse of Femininity in Paradise by Toni Morrison This literary study will examine the nature of feminine discourse within the novel Paradise by Toni Morrison. In the novel, Morrison depicts the lives on women that live in Ruby, a small town in Oklahoma. The issue of feminine identity is constantly challenged because the religious women of the town must come to terms with their dominating, patriarchal male counterparts. In this manner, the problem of patriarchal domination becomes the feminine discourse in this novel, as women must find news ways to discover and maintain their own feminist rights in the community. The first premise of feminine discourse revolves around the problem of the massacre by the black men of the women in the Convent."
