"This paper examines several critical reviews of Larry Cubans' controversial 2001 text, "Oversold and Underused: Computers in the Classroom". Among other things, the paper suggests that the reviews are too prepared to accept Cuban's central arguments and thesis without carefully examining his research methodology and the statistics he cites. In particular, the paper questions whether or not Cuban has been too assuming that issues in California are also issues elsewhere across America.

"Larry Cuban's highly touted 2001 text, Oversold and Underused: Computers in the Classroom, examines the challenges and even perils that computer technology presents to the practice of pedagogy and the process of learning in the American classroom. Because we now live in the computer age - and because the issue of education has become such a controversial one in recent years - this paper examines several critical reviews of Cuban's book to determine to what extent his views and conclusions resonated with others. In the final analysis, while professionals from all fields agree heartily on the need for competent instruction and education for our children, there appears to be an ironic lack of critical exploration of the issue by professional reviewers and by other normally thoughtful individuals."
