Ontario Provincial Politics

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses Canada's largest province, Ontario's attempts at economic and social reform improvements. The author provides an overview of Ontario's economic situation during the early 1990s and analyzes in depth, the results of the reconfiguration of the social reforms that Ontario undertook. Several Canadian welfare policies such as the Canada Assistance Plan (CAP) and the Canada Health and Social Transfer are explained together with the level at which they operated and how they affected the low income social group in Ontario. The paper goes on to discuss the social reconfiguration that the Ontario government undertook and the aspects that could use improvements.

"Ontario, Canada's largest province by population has been facing great economic obstacles since the early 90s, after the severe fallout of that time. Although social policies have been directed towards accomplishing some degree of economic improvement, there are still many reforms to be made in order for Ontario and the whole of Canada to achieve a greater degree of economic development."
