It discusses the business opportunities available to Nike, as well as threats to the company. It examines the company's structure and control system and further looks at the nature of the company's business-level strategy. The paper concludes with recommendations for Nike for the future.
From the Paper:
"Nike is one of the most recognized brand names for athletic shoes and apparel all over the world. Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman founded Nike in Beaverton, Oregon. Early on, the company identified its overall strategy of providing quality sports equipment. The mission statement of Nike reads "To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world", Nike then goes on to define what the word athlete means. The Nike mission quotes Bill Bowerman who said: "If you had a body, you are an athlete." With this mission statement, every individual who ever lived and will live becomes a potential customer for Nike products.(NikeHomePage, Mission, 2003)"
