In the 1950s "Indians" were portrayed as the aggressors who committed some unthinkable act, without reason or provocation, to some nice white folks who were just minding their own business. They were the bad guys and a hero was sent to avenge the act and bring about "justice". The 1960s and 1970s brought about the Native American as a victim."
