NGOs in International Relations
An examination of the role of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in international relations.
1,270 words (approx. 5.1 pages) | 6 sources | MLA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper looks at how the existence of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) brought a sense of equilibrium for the international scene while they also represent a forum for discussion and expression of the point of view of the individual. The paper also shows how NGOs can be used as a tool for improving the conditions in third world countries, as well as an engine for promoting actions aimed at strengthening the civil society and human rights. The paper therefore concludes that NGOs have come to be an important part of world politics.

From the Paper:

"The role of the NGOs is considered to be increasing in the development of international relations. In this sense their importance for the conduct of politics in the world has been constantly underlined, as "the Temple of States would be a rather dull place without nongovernmental organizations" (Charnovitz, 2006). However, despite this general assumption, it is still under debate to what degree nongovernmental organizations foster democracy and influences its role in the relations between states at this time."
