"Modernism embraces the changes that life throws at us. Emerging as a movement, modernism expressed its sense of modern life through art as a sharp contrast from the past. Life seemed more scientific, more technological and more mechanized. Artists explored themselves and their surroundings. Literature reflected life. It questioned life and all that encompasses it.
"T. S. Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" draws the reader into darkened alleys that, like life, do not offer any answers to the questions of life. Eliot creates a bond with the reader with his, "you and I". He leads the reader through darkness and despair with his "half deserted streets" and his ?cheap hotels.? He leaves us wondering where we are going. To find out the answer we must walk the path. We must ?make our visit.?"
