Ovid's stories in "Metamorphoses" are timeless because they operate on many levels. Ovid displays his ability to use descriptive language to make his tales interesting and entertaining. This paper looks at how Ovid includes a moral in his stories to make them appealing to every generation. "Part of the appeal connected to the stories is their universal theme. Rolfe Humphries states that Ovid's Metamorphoses is a collection of love stories that includes not only the love of a man for a woman but "the love of a father for a son, of daughter for father, of brother for sister, god for mortal, mortal for goddess, two old people for each other and the gods, even the love of self" (Humphries vii). Humphries claims that through this collection of love stories we can certainly see Ovid's love for the earth and its inhabitants. He also maintains that we can see from the distinctive attitude and tone of Metamorphoses, that Ovid was a "romantic writer, not a classical one" (vii). However, he was also much more than that."
