Paper Summary:

This paper discusses merger and acquisitions first from a theoretical point of view and then from a practical point of view. A qualitative methodology employing a case study approach is employed. The case study is based on the Reebok-Adidas-Salomon AG merger and is developed with a competitive perspective in mind. A survey questionnaire is developed in order to more accurately gauge the opinions regarding the M&A activity of the employees within the combined organization itself. The results of the case study and of the survey indicate that Adidas Group, the combined entity, has been successful not only in the M&A activity undertaken but in a competitive sense following its execution of the M&A. Both companies gained appreciably following the merger.
