This paper discusses Mary Wollstonecraft's "Maria" that appears to be filled with extreme tragedy and addresses a problematic political structure but, in the fragmented end, seems to leave unanswered many questions about a woman's role and place in life. The author says that there are several new questions posed about female sexuality.From the Paper:
"What would seem a more appropriate ending for Maria then the one which re-enforces the idea of the betraying man, but changes the impression of the deceiving woman? Maria is betrayed by Darnford, and she wants to commit suicide.
