Almost four decades of history and innovations in media technology separate the text of L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" (1899) and MGM's 1939 musical "The Wizard of Oz". Although the plot of the film is roughly comparable to that of the book, the filmmakers made a great many changes in their adaptation of the story. This essay argues the thesis that the changes and modifications between the text and the cinematic version represent more than just the efforts of the filmmakers to adapt the story to a different medium.More papers on L.
