Paper Summary:
This paper relates that, for history's great philosophers, the discourse on the subject of justice would take myriad incarnations and find relevance with unnumbered subjects. The paper then points out that this is notable in the common ground between Plato's "The Republic" and Aristotle's "The Nichomachean Ethics". This paper presents an examination of justice that is based on Plato's and Aristotle's discussions on leadership and friendship.
From the Paper:
"The notion of social order is also central to the principal of friendship, as approached by Aristotle. It is within the framework of his discussion on this subject, that Aristotle's view on justice becomes apparent. To his model of thinking, the discourse over friendship is essentially the discourse over the nature of human interaction. A logic proceeding from the notion that a primary goal of human interaction is to achieve an establishment of mutual ends, it is also instructional to patterning a conception of friendship. Elucidating such a conception through philosophical examination can ultimately be a meaningful guide to understanding relationships, friendship or otherwise, as they truly are rather than as they are proposed to be by parties cognizant of the relationship."
