The basis of this paper is the assumption and support of the thesis that Jeremiah Land, the father, is in fact a Christ-like figure within Enger's novel. The writer raises many points within the novel and links them to scenes in the Bible to show that the character was very similar to Jesus.

"In an interview on Minnesota Public Radio, Leif Enger states that his novel, Peace Like A River, is a novel of faith. Throughout the novel the reader can witness many allusions to Christianity and having faith in the Creator. Many of the miraculous events in the novel surround the character Jeremiah Land. Jeremiah Land is a Christ-like figure throughout Peace Like A River. He is a humble, charitable man with strong faith who can be seen as having the attributes of Jesus Christ."
