A discussion of the famous Box Hill scene in Jane Austen's "Emma." Mr Knightley asks Emma: "How could you be so unfeeling to Miss Bates? How could you be so insolent in your wit to a woman of her character, age and situation? Emma, I had not thought it possible." It discusses the extent that Mr Knightley was being fair to Emma with his patronizing attitude.From the Paper:
"Mr Knightley's comments follow Emma's immature and presumptuous remark towards Miss Bates. Mr Knightley's reprimand initially appear to be downright self righteous and ostentatious.
