Paper Summary:
This paper explains that, although the relatively untapped economy of Ethiopia has the possibility of producing profits for people who want to invest in this country, this reward is dependent on several factors. Next, the author describes the economy of Ethiopia, which is heavy on commodities and crops, and the potential risk of this investment. Finally, the paper explores ways to hedge an investment in Ethiopia against major losses.
From the Paper:
"Another concern for those investing in Ethiopia is if the goods that they are investing in will ever be seen. Investors want to know that they will receive what they are paying for. In order to minimize the risks of non-payment insurance can be bought. Lost payment can have serious consequences for somebody who is relying on these goods. It delays the sales process and affects the bottom line. It also cripples one's ability to get loans and pay back loans since much of the trade world relies on credit. Investors should get insurance to hedge against such defaults."
