This paper discusses the issue of immigration, a subject of contention since European settlers stepped foot on the soil of North American shores. Currently, immigration is at the forefront of the American news, particularly in terms of the role of the illegal immigrant in society. However, many Americans are unclear as to where even legal immigrants "fit" in American society. The paper further discusses how even in today's society, the general public lacks clear understanding of what non-naturalized immigrants can or should do in terms of the military, whether at home or overseas.
