This paper provides a detailed analysis of the methodology used by early twentieth century author H.P. Lovecraft in his horror tales. The paper discusses Lovecraft's family and social life, his work in the sciences, and his discovery of author Edgar Allan Poe.
From the Paper:
"The reader identifies with the young man, and is threatened and afraid of knowing that modern society does not have all the answers. The theme of this story opposes the reader's view that modern society has all the answers to everything. However, since a man of modern society cannot even comprehend what the ancients dealt with, the reader becomes insecure about his or her beliefs of reality. This insecurity leads to a powerful sense of dread in the reader. Very few horror-stories before Lovecraft attempted to attack the reader psychologically. However, the power of the unknown has been realized for an extremely long time."

While planning on a BA in engineering, literature has always been one of my passions. Many papers have been for independent research.
