Paper Summary:

This paper reviews and analyzes the character of Faustus in Christopher Marlowe's play, "Doctor Faustus." Doctor Faustus is described as being fully responsible for his fate and his separation from salvation and God. The paper includes a plot summary and further exploration of various themes, such as good versus evil.

From the Paper:

"Marlowe's portrayal of Faustus' programmatic internalization of evil dominates the action of the play and traces the character's tragic fall. As an extraordinary scholar he has the psychological and moral stature of a noble but tragic personage and his flaw is his abjuration o fthe concept of limits of human capacity. That is also the source of his undoing for his insistence on fulfilling his appetite for more knowledge and indeed for more specialized knowledge amplifies the effect of his fate."
