This paper discusses how Disney has recreated traditional fairy tales such as Cinderella, and stories that belong to the genre of children's literature such as "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," by Victor Hugo, and "Alice in Wonderland," by Lewis Carroll, to make them more child-friendly while retaining their magical nature. The writer analyzes the original stories and shows how they contain terrifying events, gruesome murders, torture, and, in the case of "Alice in Wonderland," a plurality of drug references, that make them inappropriate for children. The writer explains how Disney has taken these stories and eliminated violence and otherwise altered them to help soften children's real life problems and fears.
