Paper Summary:
This paper discusses the history of feminism from the 17th century, focusing on the success of the modern feminist movement. The paper discusses the contributions of several of the major players in the feminist movement and examines the National Organization for Women(NOW). The paper also looks briefly at the impact of feminism on religion, politics, personal rights and work.
From the Paper:
"The movement has had a great affect on many religions. In liberal Protestant churches women are now ordained as clergy and in Judaism, women are now ordained as rabbis. Schools and the text books used, no longer portray men and women in just pre-movement gender defined roles. Feminists had an effect on language. They promoted "gender inclusive" language rather than gender specific. Their influence has produced change in the power relationship between men and women which both sexes are still trying to adapt. The movement also helped to remove society's restrictions on what clothes women could wear in public. Western society has accepted many of the feminist changes which are now beginning to affect non-western societies."
