From the Paper:

"The remote environment consists of economic, social, political, technological, and ecological factors. Although all remote environment factors affect Ford, economic and ecological factors have a significant impact. Following a decline in the economy, Ford posted total revenue of $139.3 billion, which, according to the Ford website (2009), indicated a loss of $34.6 billion when compared to 2007 data. While minor fluctuations in sales are normal, Ford has realized a significant financial loss. Unlike others in the automotive industry, such as GM and Chrysler, Ford continues to work to avoid accepting government aid (Wilson, 2009). However, it is expected that Ford will seek federal aid if the economy worsens (Stoffer, Barkholz, LaReau, Wernle, & Wilson, 2009)."
