Evelyn uses men (and their money) for support and Emma allows men to use her as a political mouthpiece. Both are in the media spotlight, Evelyn because of her insane husband and Emma for her overt beliefs. Emma confesses, "but there are correspondences, you see, our loves correspond, our spirits touch each other like notes in harmony, and in the total human fate we are sisters." They are sisters since they are women and live the same exploited life, despite their superficial differences."
