This paper briefly explores the theory offered by Claude Levi Strauss where myths show the core elements of a culture or community. Strauss believed that the myth could be distilled to show what was especially important to the myth-holders, and in doing so would show the priorities of the community. The paper includes a brief review of ethnography theory.

"A Review of the Theories of Claude Levi Strauss The sum of theories put forth by noted anthropologist Claude Levi Strauss stress the synthesis between symbolism, communication, and the cultural setting. Strauss seeks to determine whether the perceptions defined in methods of knowing correlate to the individual, to a cultural subset of society, or the entire fabric of the social order as a whole. One of the methods that Strauss uses to achieve this goal is through the practice of exploring myths that are generated by a specific community and using the framework of the myth to apply to a broader spectrum of social and historical events, and then repeats the same process with a similar myth from a neighboring community."
