This paper reviews Charles Dicken's "Oliver Twist" with a focus on chapter 20, taking into account his use of environment, personality, social class and faith. Housebreaking was very serious in Victorian times, and burglars were usually executed for their crimes. Therefore, Oliver's introduction to housebreaking was a pivotal moment for him ? it was the place in the novel where he finally met a good person ? his saviour from Fagin and Sikes ? in direst hour of need."
