Paper Summary:

The paper begins with a brief accounting of Camus' life and work. It then turns to "The Plague," providing a short synopsis of the story. Sources are brought that compare elements of the story to various aspects of World War II.

From the Paper:

"One of Camus' best-known works is his novel The Plague. The Plague is the story of a city in Algeria that has to be quarantined after an outbreak of that disease. Camus sees the city of Oran as a place that is partly prison, with the population trapped in place by societal rules and expectations. Many of those unspoken rules and expectations are challenged and sometimes set aside as the population learns to cope with the effects of the disease."
