From the Paper:

"An analysis of the external environment of a healthcare facility serves to understand the forces that help to shape the organization. In most recent years the healthcare facility has experienced significant increase in the demand for services and utilities. Irrespectively, there has been a shortage of nursing personnel with difficulty in recruiting and retaining staff resulting in significantly increased workloads. The delivery of health care has seen many changes and will continue to see more changes within the realms of the environment. The level of care an individual may receive is impacted by a number of socio-economic factors within the external environment. The organization's environmental factors are dependent upon the mission of the organization, the market it competes and sell with and the strategies put in place to combat these factors."
