The District Attorney must mull whether his ultimate ties are to the law he has sworn to uphold, as a lawyer and as a public servant, hold sway over the emotional ties he has to the individual fleeing the law. Perhaps this is one reason why the author chose not only to tie these two stories together in one episode, but also to touch the theme of loyalty at all. This conflict is one, the writer may have assumed, that every individual viewer has experienced on some level, in some fashion, throughout his or her life."
