American Imperialism

American Imperialism
An analysis of international relations in the age of globalization.
3,614 words (approx. 14.5 pages) | 13 sources | MLA | 2005

Paper Summary:

This paper contends that the United States is driven by imperialistic motivations that can best be explained through an analysis of the U.S.'s foreign policy, especially in Iraq, according to Marxist theory of international relations. It looks at how this argument is further supported by the facts, which demonstrate that globalization has enhanced poverty among the Third World countries, additionally fulfilling the Marxist theory of international relations as system in which wealth is diverted from the poor to the rich; international relations are based upon economic oppression and political domination.

From the Paper:

"The United States has practically interfered in every part of the globe in an effort to establish its dominance over the international community. As TeSelle explains, the United States has used both overt and underhanded military force in Latin America to shape that continent. The United States has entered into several wars with several countries in Latin America, at times claiming to be fighting the spread of communism, at others to be fighting the drug trade and, still at other times, to be protecting its own national interests, represented by American multinational corporations doing business in Latin America (TeSelle)."
