Paper Summary:
The paper describes how Albert Schweitzer's "Reverence for Life" identifies basic tenets to give purpose to human life and provide a framework within which all humans should live. The paper explains Schweitzer's belief that, in this way, all human beings will find peace and contentment within themselves and also among their fellow man and creatures on Earth. The paper concludes that while simplistic in many ways, if all human beings followed just the basic tenets of Schweitzer's work, the world would be a happier, more peaceful place to live in.
From the Paper:
"Albert Schweitzer's "Reverence for Life" provides an insightful perspective and roadmap to understand the meaning of our lives. According to Schweitzer, humans are here in order to do good in order to preserve our, as well as others', will-to-live. Evil leads to destruction and an ethical man knows that he is not to injure any creature of God. It is sane to want to do good. For not doing so may make us unneeded on earth and in a system of God, unnecessary and ripe for possible removal."
