The Future of Affirmative Action
From the Paper:
"Affirmative Action was an idea established by President Lyndon B. Johnson after his discussions with the leaders of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in the midst of the civil rights movements of the early 1960's. CORE was concerned about the lack of opportunity for African American individuals in the work place as well as their acceptance into higher education institutions. They presented the idea of Compensatory Preferential Treatment which would give African Americans preferential treatment when applying for jobs as well as acceptance into universities. Soon Affirmative Action would apply to all minorities such as women, Hispanics, etc. "
