1,255 words (approx. 5 pages) | 6 sources | MLA | 2005

Paper Summary:

This paper explains that, since the "Roe vs. Wade" decision making abortion legal, around the mid 1970s, conflict began in the form of protest marches, sit-ins and even violent crimes, which erupted as pro-lifers took the law into their own hands, obeying a higher law---the law of God. The author points out that, in addition to their religious position, pro-life supporters argue that abortion will cause a higher risk of breast cancer and can cause psychological side effects. The paper relates that, in addition to their constitutional right position, pro-choice activists argue that an unwanted child will have a hard life because it is unwanted.

From the Paper:

"By 1800, abortion was banned in the United States, by the way of protesting via state legislatures. Although abortions were outlawed, they were still being performed illicitly and illegally. Women began fleeing to Europe and other foreign areas of the world, where abortion was still legal. By the 1960s, abortion became a phenomenon, and many women began challenging the law; however none of them succeeded. In March of 1970, a woman by the name of Noma McCorvey sought an abortion due to her meager standard of living. To hide her identity she changed her name to "Jane Roe" for the case and filed suit in Dallas, Texas where Henry Wade was district attorney at the time. Eventually, Roe won the case, because the law was declared a violation to the right to personal liberty guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment."
