The two characters Jacob and Lucy will be brought forth to reveal comparing and contrasting elements of class differentiation and their perceptions of life. While Jacob and Lucy both represent drastically different classes of people; they invariably reflect similar characteristics in how they achieve independence in their lives. In the novel Jacob's Room the main character Jacob represents a middle class individual who has a yearning desire to experience life. However, his middle class upbringing reveals the hardships of his life that he will ultimately face, especially due to his inexperience as a youth."
