2008 Election and Social Issues
An assessment of the impact of social issues in the 2008 U.S. elections.
3,654 words (approx. 14.6 pages) | 13 sources | MLA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper explains the theory of the social movement and assesses the way in which the campaign of the two Democratic candidates, Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama, address the social needs of the population. The paper examines the major issues on their respective platforms, such as immigration, poverty and healthcare, that are related more to the domestic issues of the country, rather than the foreign policy of the United States. The paper also highlights how the main contenders themselves show how the society is changing in America. The paper therefore illustrates how the personalities as well as the policies of the representatives of the Democratic party are representatives for the current tendencies in the US social environment. Note: The paper is written prior to the US 2008 presidential elections.

From the Paper:

"The 2008 upcoming US elections are considered by most specialists to be one of the most important and most interesting elections of recent times. This is largely due to a combination of factors. On the one hand, the main contenders present a perspective which draws the attention on a series of issues that marked the history of the US since its early beginnings. In this sense, women are strongly represented through the Democrat candidacy of Hilary Clinton, New York senator. At the same time, the African Americans have a strong representative in the person of Barack Obama, Illinois senator from the Democrat party."
