"It is my belief that the particular insight provided by a local university will place me in a better position to complete my first intermediate goal, which involves the completion of the coursework required to obtain my Masters in Public Administration. While the degree is important to me, the skills and knowledge that I hope to acquire as a student are of even greater importance. Currently, I view myself as a very competent county employee. I know that my heart is in the right place and that I work my hardest to ensure that I do my job in the best manner possible. However, I am certain that the lessons I can learn at Florida International University will help me become a more efficient and effective employee. For example, one of my most pressing work-related issues is the fact that I have yet to fully develop my time-management skills. As a result, I find that I go through periods where my workload is exceptionally heavy and other periods where my workload is exceptionally light. Although part of that variation is attributable to the fact that I work in the public sector and am called upon to deal with various emergencies, I feel that part of it is also attributable to a lack of proper planning. It is my hope that learning more about public administration will make me a more effective time manager."
