This paper discusses and answers these questions about the impact an abusiverelationship. It explains that they are destructive, have patterns, and can repeat themselves throughout generations. There are many different types of abuse, from physical to psychological, and each one can lead to emotional distress, loss of self-esteem, and even death. It mentions that abusiverelationships have a long history, and as more is understood about them and what causes them, more can be done to aid both the abused and their abusers.

Abstract The paper states that about twenty to fifty percent of women all over the world suffer from physical, psychological or sexual abuse, according to an article in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence. The paper notes the fact that many women do not even recognize that they are in an abusiverelationship - or they are in denial about it - and often they do not know how to escape from it. Abusiverelationships are a social problem of enormous breadth. From the Paper "Glennys Parker of the University of Newcastle in Australia, and Christina Lee of the University of Queensland recently conducted a study of 143 women who had been abused in relationships; the results of their work is published in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence in September 2007. Abstract This paper discusses the problem of domestic violence and looks at some of the reasons why women stay in abusiverelationships. Abstract This paper looks at how teenage relationship violence is due to factors in their environment, lack of education and support networks. It examines the thesis that increased interventions within schools, youth and community centers should reduce teen violence in relationships, and increase knowledge about what constructs an abusiverelationship. From the Paper The notion that abused children become abusive parents is extremely prevalent and accepted as generally accurate. This idea is referred to as "The intergenerational hypothesis of abuse" or ?The intergenerational theory of abuse.? As the moniker would suggest, this theory subscribes to the strong correlations between abusive parents and the idea that their childhoods having had been abusive as well. Parents who abuse, suffered abuse at the hands of their parents and thus, the violence towards children is passed down from one to generation to another in the family. From the Paper "According to Robert Pollard (1996) approximately about 40,000 deaf Americans suffer from serious psychopathology. Only 2% of Deaf Americans in need of mental health services receive them. The Deaf population is severely underserved, proven by this fact. Individuals who are deaf constitute a special subgroup of the disabled population for whom counseling services are insufficiently provided (Tucker, 1981).According to Johnson and Locke (1978), research on substance abuse among deaf people is meager. Enough drug and alcohol abuse in a residential school for the deaf was present to justify special intervention and prevention programs (cited in McCrone, 1982). The deaf alcoholic is not only isolated from society because of his/her alcoholism, but the deaf community is normally an isolated group of people and there is the painful awareness of isolation for a person who is not only deaf but also ill with the disease of alcoholism (Hetherington, 1979). It is evident, as I will show in the following paper, more research is needed to allow mental health centers to provide services for hearing impaired and deaf individuals. This paper will focus on one of the reasons the mental health community has not fully served this cultural population."

An examination of the relationship between anxiety disorders & substance abuse and whether substance abuse can be viewed as a product of anxiety disorders.
Abstract The paper questions whether there is any evidence that increased levels of anxiety result in a higher incidence of substance abuse. People who are very anxious may consume larger quantities of alcohol, smoke more heavily or resort to drugs as a way of self medication in treating an anxiety disorder. The paper relates that the higher the levels of self-reported anxiety,the more difficult it is to complete a treatment program, with the possibility that the person will return to the disorder of abuse on completing the program. The paper continues and discusses subtle affinities of anxiety disorders with that of substance abuse, by indicating that there are minor differences between the amount of abuse by alcoholics who have anxiety disorders, and those that do not. This indicates that anxiety disorders are an independent factor in the study of substance abuse.

Trait anxiety levels were also negatively correlated with the number of days an individual spent in treatment.
